Our Amazing Bodies

OP site image 10.jpg

"Our bodies are functional structures of magnificence. Every blink, every breath, every subtle movement is a miraculous happening."

There are so many of us weakened by our own destructive and sedentary actions. Many of us suffer sickness as a result of our own dietary misdeeds. Whether your life revolves around religion or you walk the path of a decisive atheist, you must agree that the body is a blessing a gift. As we sit in our cubicles, in front of our flat screens, in our local fast food drive through; we make excuses as to why we can't better ourselves physically. "I'm too tired" "I've worked all day" "I've got to cook" "I don't feel like it" "I'm not motivated" "My workout partner is busy" "It’s too hot outside" "I'm not comfortable working out around people" "I don't have time" "I'm sore" And on and on and on. Each excuse is a personal affront to every person born without the use of their legs. It’s a personal affront to every person born without the use of their arms. It’s a slap in the face of those with degenerative muscular diseases and sicknesses that prevent them from having full control over their bodies. Imagine living life in a wheelchair. Imagine living life as a paraplegic. Imagine a terrible car accident leaving you to face certain amputation. There is NO reason for you not to be healthy and fit. You are your only obstacle. It can be done, it should be done. Even, if only to show your appreciation for the beautiful and complex vessel that has been given to you. Wake up people! Each day is another opportunity to give thanks for your body. And each day you neglect to do so is another wasted opportunity and an unappreciative gesture. There are no excuses and no feasible explanations. Open your eyes see the blessing right in front of you. Each time I go for a long run or I'm in the gym banging reps out I'm whispering thanks. I'm saying "Thank you for this body. Thank you for my ability to walk, to run. I will show my gratitude by taking care of this body." When I'm training and I feel like stopping early or quitting I think of all those who can't do what I'm doing at that moment and I push myself to continue. Get active! Get healthy! Give thanks and get moving Olympians!
